Providing Hydraulic Power and Control for Complex Maneuvers

Hydroservice has completed the construction of a Hydraulic Control Plant for a 1500HP drilling rig with final destination Taiwan, for a leading oil industry company. The Hydraulic Power Plant developed by Hydroservice is designed to provide the hydraulic power and control needed for the complex Rig Up, Skidding, Rig Services, and Catwalk Maneuvers. Equipped with a highly efficient system, the Hydraulic Power Unit (HPU) is essential to ensure the smooth operation of drilling operations.

This state-of-the-art design features high power density and includes a wide range of components and features designed to ensure optimal performance during drilling operations.

The HPU is housed within a robust frame/skid made from steel sections, ensuring strength and durability.

What Hydroservice has developed

A high-performance, yet easy-to-maintain system

The Hydraulic Power Plant is equipped with two sets of 110 kW electric motor pumps coupled with Bosch Rexroth constant power piston pumps, capable of delivering a total of 420 liters per minute at a pressure of 300bar: one of these is specifically dedicated to the Rig Up.

Hydraulic oil temperature is maintained between 30 and 50 degrees Celsius, ensuring optimal operation in various environmental conditions.

To ensure proper maintenance, components are arranged in such a way as to facilitate access to parts subject to normal wear and deterioration.

 

Advanced systems

Electrical System and Oil Heating and Cooling System

The electrical circuit of the hydraulic power plant is equipped with a control panel with advanced controls and indicators managed by PLC, combined with SIL-certified safety modules.

The system allows remote management and control through the Profinet protocol, while enabling some manual commands for Commissioning and Troubleshooting locally via key switch.
During Rig Up, an automatic oil heating system is activated when the temperature falls below 20°C.

Heating elements intervene to ensure that the system is not started under suboptimal conditions.

Similarly, an automatic oil cooling system goes into action through temperature control, activating the cooler's electric motor to keep the temperature in the ideal temperature range.

Proportional Distributors and Remote Control

Precise and remote control, for operator safety

Proportional distributors are controlled by a radio control which, in turn, is connected to the PLC via a transceiver.

The radio control receiver is equipped with a Profinet interface, while the distributor coils are connected directly to the PLC.

This advanced system enables precise remote control, improving operational efficiency, operator safety, and Rig Up time.
